Vilma Santos Fulfills a Dream Role in MMFF Entry Uninvited

On November 20, 2024, I had the privilege of attending the grand launch of Uninvited, one of this year’s official Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries. Featuring a powerhouse cast led by Vilma Santos-Recto, Aga Muhlach, and Nadine Lustr together with Tirso Cruz III, Mylene Dizon, Lotlot de Leon, Elijah Canlas, Gabby Padilla, RK Bagatsing, Ketchup Eusebio, Gio Alvarez, Cholo Barretto, and Ron Angeles.

The event was nothing short of spectacular—arguably one of the most vibrant and well-organized media launches I've experienced. The room was abuzz with energy, and the enthusiasm from both the cast and the media was palpable. What added to the excitement was the much-anticipated Q&A session where Vilma Santos addressed one of the most intriguing questions of the night.

When asked why she chose Uninvited over her other three movie projects, Vilma candidly shared:

“There were some issues with the character I was supposed to portray in the other film. While it was being sorted out, I was already in discussions with Direk Dan [Villegas] about Uninvited. Honestly, I was also looking forward to working with Judy Ann [Santos], but the script for that movie didn’t make it to the MMFF’s first five entries. It was Atty. Joji Alonso who encouraged me to go ahead with Uninvited. She told me, ‘Do this movie, and I promise to watch it.’ That’s how everything fell into place.”

She also revealed a long-time dream of hers that finally came to life with Uninvited:

“I’ve always wanted to make a film that takes place within just 24 hours. It starts out polished and beautiful, and by the end, everything looks dilapidated. I didn’t know how the middle part of the story would unfold, but I left it to Direk Dan and the team to fill in the gaps. They built the story around my dream—and here we are with Uninvited.”

Vilma’s passion and excitement were contagious. Her openness about the behind-the-scenes process and her admiration for the creative team made it clear how much this project means to her.

The buzz around Uninvited only grows stronger as we inch closer to its release on December 25, 2024. Its gripping trailer, which premieres on November 30 via Mentorque’s social media channels, hints at a story unlike any we’ve seen before—a testament to the bold vision of its creators.

With a dream cast, a unique concept, and the unwavering dedication of its team, Uninvited is shaping up to be a must-watch this holiday season. Make sure to add it to your Christmas Day plans!

Film Review : Just The 3 Of Us

My notes on Just The 3 Of Us: 1. The movie reminded me so much of this late 90's rom-com with Matthew Perry as a happy-go-lucky bachelor who had a one night stand with a sultry Salma Hayek in Vegas. She ended up pregnant, they got married, and then discovered each other's personalities while fixing family and work issues. It was called Fools Rush In and I would have asked you to rent it in a local Video City, but I think all of their stores closed ages ago. 2. In this version though, the girl CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) would rather stalk the potential father and be the emotional punching bag of Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) who had a bad temper (F-words everywhere!), an a-hole attitude ("So what? Buhay ko 'to. Kahit mag-swimming ako sa alak wala ka pakialam!"), crazy reasoning (he wanted to take care of CJ and the baby, but made her sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed in the living room with poor ventilation), and a drinking problem that were all supposedly reasonab...
