Moophs is a project born in 2013 when Chris Lopez moved to Manila. Moophs was the nickname of his pet Savannah Monitor who died shortly after the move to Manila. After four years, Never The Strangers returns to the local record industry with the release of their new album “Screenburn,” their first album with Universal Records. Universal Records Managing Director Kathleen Dy-Go, over the years, has successfully prepared the country’s biggest independent record label to withstand the challenges of the ever-changing landscape of the local recording industry. Because of this achievement, Joey Concepcion’s GoNegosyo has named Kathleen as one of the 50 Entrepreneurs of Passion. Her story is included in a special limited edition book with the subtitle “How Big Dreams and Good Ideas Became Great Businesses.”  In the commemorative book, Kathleen recalled how Universal Records have readied itself in the evolution of music formats in the country – from vinyl to cassettes to CDs to digital.  Kathleen also admitted that this inescapable evolution is really challenging, but according to her, one truth keeps her faith in the industry – “Music will never disappear and Filipinos will always be music lovers.”

Universal Records produces PhilPop 2014 album

Universal Records first partnered with the Philippine Popular Music Festival (PhilPop) for the production of the festival’s 2013 commemorative album. The partnership proved to be a beautiful one as it yielded hits like Dati (performed by Sam Concepcion, Tippy Dos Santos and Quest), Sayo Na Lang Ako (Karylle), Araw, Ulap, Langit (Christian Bautista), Sana Pinatay Mo Na Lang Ako (Kimpoy Feliciano), Segundo (Yael Yuzon), among others. This year, PhilPop and Universal Records team-up again in the production of the new commemorative album, which features some of the most respected and promising recording artists in the country.

Regine Velasquez- Alcasid’s Hulog Ka Ng Langit hits Platinum in record time

Regine Velasquez proved that she is still the country’s topselling female artist as her latest album Hulog Ka Ng Langit hits platinum mark in record time of two weeks.  Hulog Ka Ng Langit topped various stores’ sales chart for the past two weeks. Regine was awarded the Platinum Record Award by Universal Records General Manager Kathleen Dy- Go last Sunday at GMA’s Sunday All Stars. The album has sold more than 15,000 units. The album, composed of songs that give inspiration to wives and mothers, has the beautifully-penned Hulog Ka Ng Langit as debut single and title track of the album. The song truly embodies what the album is all about – unconditional love between husbands and wives, and mothers to children.

Richard Poon launches pop album Legends this April 26 at Eastwood

Say goodbye to the local Big Band Crooner, as Richard Poon goes back to pop with his latest album Legends, which will be launched this April 26, Friday, 7:00 p.m., Eastwood Mall Open Park, and April 28, Sunday, 7:00 p.m., Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill. In Legends, Richard traces his pop roots by singing some of the biggest pop artists in the international music industry - classics by Lionel Richie (Truly), Whitney Houston (All At Once), Barbra Streisand (Evergreen), Madonna (Borderline), Barry Manilow (Ready To Take A Chance Again), among others. “This is an interesting point in my career,” says Richard. “Aside from being with a new label (Universal), I am also going back to pop after years of doing big band.” Richard adds that he welcomes the challenge with open arms, and he hopes that people will continue supporting him and his music. Richard Poon has released multi-platinum albums over the years, making him the country’s premiere Big Band Crooner. This 2013, Richard has decided to make a bold move – to return to pop and join Universal Records, the country’s largest independent record label. Richard joins Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid, Christian Bautista, Noel Cabangon, Billy Crawford, JayR in the elite roster of Universal Records of prime male singers. Richard’s first album with Universal Records will be out in a few weeks.

Young star Alden Richards has proven mettle as an actor in various TV projects, making him one of the fastest rising stars of GMA 7. Now, he is embarking on a new journey as a recording artist as he recently signed up with Universal Records. Alden’s album is set to be released in a few months, and will include some of Alden’s favorite songs. Asked what to expect about the album, “they should look out for it because it will tell a lot about me.”
