Ballet Philippines (BP), the country’s flagship dance company, presents the timeless Christmas ballet in full Filipino splendor in Edna Vida’s The Nutcracker. Nobuo Fujino (formerly a Senior Artist at the Australian Ballet and Principal Dancer with Hong Kong Ballet) returns to BP as guest artist courtesy of Japan Foundation and Tan Yan Kee Foundation, and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Gerard Salonga, plays Tchaikovsky’s iconic music live  on select performances.

Ballet Philippines revives choreographic gems in a gala featuring Filipino stars from various international dance companies. Among the guest artists are Candice Adea (formerly of BalletMet and Hong Kong Ballet), Marcelino Libao (Hamburg Ballet), Kris-Belle Paclibar (formerly of Cirque du Soleil), Ronelson Yadao (formerly of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre), Paul Ocampo & Chien-Ying Wang (OcampoWang Dance), and Jean Marc Cordero & Rita Angela Winder (Ballett Kiel).

Ballet Philippines' Eisa Jocson’s newest creation, “Your Highness” will have its world premiere

Eisa Jocson’s newest creation, “Your Highness” will have its world premiere on July 27 (8pm) and 28 (3pm, 8pm) at the CCP Little Theater, and will be performed at several major European performing arts festivals from August to September 2017. The work is a production by Ballet Philippines and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main (Germany), in co-production with Internationales Sommerfestival Kampnagel (Germany), Zürcher Theater Spektakel (Switzerland), La Bâtie – Festival de Genève (Switzerland).

The 48th CCP Summer Dance Workshop

Summer can be the most crucial time for a budding ballerina’s career. While most children are on vacations or staycations, the pupils of Ballet Philippines Dance School are hard at work. Three to five times a week, they fill their days with classes in classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, hip hop, and even lectures – all geared towards guiding them towards becoming full-fledged dance artists.

Ballet Philippines Perform Master Pieces in China on Oct 26, 29 and 31

Continuing its series of international tours, BP sets off once again to perform in China this October. The company will be at the Chongqing Guo Tai Art Center in Chongqing on October 26, the Jinrong Theater, Xiamen Little Egret Art Center in Xiamen on October 29, and Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theater Performance Center on October 31. The tour is co-presented by the Department of Foreign Affairs-Manila and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Similar to the Middle East Tour in August, this trip is an initiative in cultural diplomacy by the Office of the Undersecretary for International Economic Relations, led by Undersecretary Laura del Rosario. It marks the 40 th Anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-China diplomatic relations.

For one night only, Ballet Philippines 2’s acclaimed concert, Hugot Sa Rosas, returns for a performance at the CCP Little Theater. Set to music from Vincent de Jesus’ Songs to Slash Your Wrist By, the show highlights the talents of BP’s junior company and its new breed of dancers and choreographers. The show premiered at Ballet Philippines Studio One in February 2015, as part of Fringe MNL. Original Pilipino Music shines in this production, with songs sung by industry icons such as AizaSeguerra, Noel Cabangon, Jett Pangan, and OJ Mariano interpreted into dance form by Ballet Philippines’ young choreographers. The performances include Erl Emmanuel Sorilla’s “As Long as I Can Wait”, set to Pangan’s vocals, and “SirangOyayi” to Cabangon’s “Duwag”, as well as other songs performed by Daryl Ong, Sweet Plantado, KalilaAguilos, Daryl Reyes, and AizaSeguerra.

Ballet Phillipines's will perform Body Positive +, A Dance Gala for HIV Awareness

Two fresh productions are set to bring Ballet Philippines (BP)’s 46th Season off to a good start. On September 12, 13, and 19, the company will perform Body Positive +, A Dance Gala for HIV Awareness. September 20 brings the comeback of HugotSa Rosas, featuring Ballet Philippines 2, BP’s junior performing arm. The performances will be held at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).

Ballet Philippines showcase the Young Dancers and Choreographers in the International Dance Day

Taking part in the worldwide celebration of International Dance Day, Ballet Philippines presents the Young Dancers and Choreographers Showcase. The show shines the spotlight on the young artists of Ballet Philippines. Through glimpses of their beginning choreographies and more recent works, the company brings forth the next generation of choreographers who are set to push the Philippine art scene into the 21st century. The showcase is directed by Ballet Philippines’ Artistic Director Paul Alexander Morales. Featured choreographers include Richardson Yadao, Gillianne Gequinto, Edana Labitoria, Ian Nick Tiba, Danilo Dayo, Bonifacio Guerrero, and Erl Emmanuel Sorilla, who won the Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award (Outstanding Contemporary Choreography) at the 1st CCP Ballet Competition.

Tearful farewell to Ballet Philippines Principal Dancer Katherine Trofeo

As the curtain fell on the last show of Ballet Philippines’ Sapphire Season, the company bid a tearful farewell to esteemed principal dancer, Katherine Trofeo. The dancers, scholars, and artistic team led by Artistic Director Paul Alexander Morales presented her with roses onstage, one by one as a video highlighting Katherine and her extraordinary artistry. Fondly called “Mommy Kit”, she is an inspiration to everyone around her. As a principal dancer, she not only showcases exceptional dance technique and exquisite artistry, but she also possesses a wonderful character which translates into her dancing. Whenever she performs onstage, she never fails to captivate with her ability to take on a role and give it new life with her own interpretation. Her portrayal of the psychic vampire, Gonongleda in “MANHID: The Pinoy Superhero Musical” has been described as transformative. Gonongleda was her final role as principal dancer of Ballet Philippines.
