Movie Review : Ang Larawan

“Hindi Simple ang Buhay katulad ng Sining. May Puwersang humuhubog sa ating landasin. Hindi Tayo ang May hawak sa ating kinabukasan. Nagmimiron ka lamang sa iyong kapalaran. “

Movie Review : Coco (Lee Unkrich, Adrian Molina, 2017)

After years of hearing the words Remember Me and immediately thinking/singing “kapag nag-iisa, kapag ika’y nalulungkot, huwag kang mag-alala...”, I was so happy that it had finally been replaced by the lovely theme song of this equally lovely animated film from Disney/Pixar.

Film Review : KITA KITA

Starring Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez under the direction of Sigrid Andrea Bernardo My notes on Kita Kita: 1. Where do we draw the line between persistence and obsession? Do we consider a grand gesture like asking someone out for a coffee date via a huge billboard in Morayta sweet or repulsive? If Xian Gaza actually looked like Daniel Matsunaga, would he still be considered a creepy stalker or just a determined romantic? 2. One of my biggest concerns with this movie was that after it made us fall in love with its unconventional lovers, it tried to sell us this disturbing (and Machiavellian?) big reveal that nothing was actually wrong with the couple's predator-prey relationship history (I felt the exact same way when Maricel Soriano fell in love with her rapist in Dahas, but then that wasn't even close to being a romantic-comedy). He knowingly took advantage of her disability, period.

Film Review : This Time

My notes on This Time: 1. I could easily relate to Ava's (Nadine Lustre) hate for summer. It was bad enough that the six-pack abs that I wished for last Christmas did not magically show up this month in time for Laboracay (I hate you Santa!), this was also my dreaded season of extreme sunshine and salty sweating. Her reason was completely different from mine, of course: her assumed childhood boyfriend Coby only visited (and left her) every summer, but hey, if James Reid (How to be you po?) were to spend time with anyone even for just a day, that person would be eternally thankful. Show some gratitude girl! (You didn't even wish that from Santa!)
