I guess we all grew up embracing the fantasy and mystical story of Ibong Adarna. The tale of this eponymous magical bird has remained alive since the 15th century and we should be grateful enough that this famous epic has become part of our basic curriculum in high school, otherwise, we may not have the chance to explore the wonderful world of Ibong Adarna. Looking back at our old lectures, you might have learned that the author behind this so-called Corrido remains unknown yet others are claiming that it is Jose Dela Cruz or more commonly known as Huseng Sisiw.

“Ibong Adarna,” one of the most celebrated Philippine literary masterpieces, enchants audience anew as part of the 39th season of Gantimpala Theater Foundation (GTF). This classic tale of love, deceit, and forgiveness follows the journey of three brothers from the kingdom of Berbanya (Don Diego, Don Pedro, and Don Juan) and their pursuit to catch the magical healing bird, Adarna, to help save their ailing father, king Fernando.

Gantimpala Theater Present : Roeder Camanag in El Filibusterismo as Don Simoun

EL FILIBUSTERISMO the novel of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal written by noted playwright Jomar Fleras narrates the return of the protagonist of Noli Me Tangere, Crisostomo Ibarra, under the guise of the wealthy jeweler named Don Simoun. Fresh from his critically-acclaimed performance as the sublime paralytic in “Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini,”  ROEDER CAMANAG shall once again reprise his role in Gantimapala Theater’s EL FILIBUSTERISMO. The role is being essayed by multi-talented actor Roeder Camañag who is stepping into this role for the 7th time for Gantimpala Theater Foundation. His foray as Don Simoun started in 1998 and then again in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Indeed, Roeder’s celebration of his 27th year as an artist in the entertainment and theater industry is being etched  with very significant roles in the legitimate stage. He also won the 2013 Aliw Awards for  Best Actor (Musical) for “Stageshow” under Tanghalang Pilipino.
