“Bakwit Boys” — playing soon at Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino!

Opening in cinemas on August 15 is “Bakwit Boys,” one of the eight official entries of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) 2018. The romantic musical is written and directed by box-office filmmaker Jason Paul Laxamana, and produced by T-Rex Entertainment. Direk Jason Paul and T-Rex Entertainment were the frontrunners at last year’s PPP. Direk Jason Paul’s film “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” was the top-grosser of PPP 2017, while T-Rex Entertainment’s comedy “Patay Na Si Hesus” was the second highest-grossing film of the festival.

NAMCYA 45th Anniversary Concert Series at CCP

A world premiere and choral works transcribed for strings will highlight the first concert in celebration of the NAMCYA 45th Anniversary.The National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Cultural Center of the Philippinesbrings the strings on center stage as they kick-off the celebration with “Minsan Lang Kami Maging Musiko” at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The concert featuring NAMCYA winners, the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra, and Kuwerdas Filipinas (Philippine Rondalla Ensemble) will be staged on August 15, 2018 at 8:00 pm.

Ovation Productions presents Tower Of Power in Manila

The much-awaited Manila performance of Tower Of Power is finally happening September 7, 2018 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to be mounted by Ovation Productions. The triple bill event also features Dennis Lambert and Kalapana. Tower's musical odyssey actually began in 1968 when Emilio Castillo met Stephen "Doc" Kupka in July of that year. When Doc auditioned during a band rehearsal at Emilio's house, Emilio's father called him into the kitchen and offered the following advice: "Hire that guy, he's got something." This was how Doc and his signature baritone sax came to be a major part of the band’s sound, and on August 13, 1968, Tower of Power, as we know them today, began playing gigs, and soon became very well known in the area.
