World-class Filipino artistry will once again be celebrated as Tanghalang Pilipino (TP), the resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, concludes its 31stTheater Season (billed as “Freedom Writers: Freedom Fighters”) with Nang Dalawin ng Pag-ibigsi Juan Tamad, a new and original production based on National Artist Nick Joaquin’s story “How Love Came to Juan Tamad.” Literary critics describe it as the correct explanation why MariyangMakiling forever nurses a broken heart and why Juan Tamad remains a pop idol; a model for the young.

Repertory Philippines or REP, is already hyping everyone up for what amazing things are to comein 2018

The current season marks the premier theater company’s golden anniversary, which aptly culminates with the grand musicale Hair, opening to audiences on November 17, and running all the way through December 17.  REP’s production of the first-ever tribal love-rock musical on Broadway is directed by Chris Millado, and is a great indicator that the succeeding year will continue delivering amazing plays, wonderful performances, and more reasons to celebrate.

2016 nominations for Gawad Buhay, the Philstage Awards for the Performing Arts is now out

The Philippine Educational Theater Association’s “3 Stars and a Sun,” an original Filipino musical that featured the music of the late rap artist Francis Magalona in a story about youthful hope and rebellion in a dystopian Philippine setting, grabbed 13 nods to lead the 2016 nominations for Gawad Buhay, the Philstage Awards for the Performing Arts.
