MY FUTURE YOU: Redefining Love Across Time

On November 27, 2024, MY FUTURE YOU made its grand media conference at the Valencia Event Place, setting the stage for one of the most talked-about entries in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. This official Regal Entertainment Inc. entry, directed and written by Crisanto B. Aquino, stars Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin in a story that defies time, exploring themes of love, fate, and the ripple effect of choices. The film co-stars a talented ensemble cast, including Almira Muhlach, Christian Vasquez, Peewee O’Hara, Bodjie Pascua, Mosang, and Izzy Canillo, adding depth and nuance to the narrative.

The movie revolves around two strangers who find each other through a mysterious dating app, only to discover they are living in different timelines. It’s a story that is as thought-provoking as it is heartwarming, delving into the fragility and beauty of human connections.

During the press conference, Crisanto B. Aquino shared his inspiration behind the film, emphasizing its message about second chances and living in the moment. “This film is more than just a romance. It’s about how our actions today shape not only our futures but the futures of those we hold dear,” he explained. Known for his ability to craft deeply emotional narratives, Aquino has once again delivered a project that promises to resonate with audiences, especially during the sentimental holiday season.

Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin both expressed how deeply connected they felt to their roles. For Diaz, the experience was transformative. “I felt like I wasn’t just acting—I was living my character’s journey,” she shared, describing the challenges and joys of portraying a role so emotionally rich. Fedelin echoed her sentiments, revealing how his character’s vulnerabilities mirrored his own. “My character is flawed but hopeful, and that’s what makes him real,” he said. Their on-screen chemistry, a blend of authenticity and subtlety, was evident in their interactions during the event, with Diaz noting how much she valued Seth’s support on set. “Seth brings out the best in me,” she added, reflecting the camaraderie they built throughout the filming process.

Behind the camera, Aquino’s vision tied everything together, creating a narrative that is both imaginative and relatable. His dedication to capturing the essence of human emotion did not go unnoticed by his cast. Diaz and Fedelin both praised his ability to make them feel comfortable while pushing them to deliver their best. For Aquino, the goal was simple yet profound: to remind viewers of the importance of cherishing the present and the people around them. “This is a story about living fully and embracing life’s second chances,” he said.

MY FUTURE YOU is a timely offering for the holidays, blending elements of romance, family drama, and science fiction to create a film that appeals to all ages. The themes of love, gratitude, and hope are woven seamlessly into the story, making it not only a cinematic experience but also a reflection on the values that matter most during Christmas. Francine Diaz captured the heart of the film’s message beautifully when she said, “Love doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to be true.”

Although MY FUTURE YOU wasn’t initially crafted as an MMFF entry, it feels right at home in the festival’s lineup, with its unique premise, standout performances, and strong supporting cast. Aquino shared his gratitude for being part of such a prestigious event, noting the honor of representing Filipino storytelling on such a grand stage. The film, with its universal appeal and emotional depth, is already being hailed as a strong contender for MMFF glory.

As the press conference came to a close, Aquino left the audience with a heartfelt message: “Prepare your hearts—this film will take you on a journey you won’t forget.” With its December 25 premiere just around the corner, MY FUTURE YOU promises to be more than just a holiday movie; it’s a poignant reminder of the power of love and the beauty of life’s unexpected connections. This Christmas, audiences everywhere are invited to embark on a journey through time and emotion with MY FUTURE YOU.

Film Review : Just The 3 Of Us

My notes on Just The 3 Of Us: 1. The movie reminded me so much of this late 90's rom-com with Matthew Perry as a happy-go-lucky bachelor who had a one night stand with a sultry Salma Hayek in Vegas. She ended up pregnant, they got married, and then discovered each other's personalities while fixing family and work issues. It was called Fools Rush In and I would have asked you to rent it in a local Video City, but I think all of their stores closed ages ago. 2. In this version though, the girl CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) would rather stalk the potential father and be the emotional punching bag of Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) who had a bad temper (F-words everywhere!), an a-hole attitude ("So what? Buhay ko 'to. Kahit mag-swimming ako sa alak wala ka pakialam!"), crazy reasoning (he wanted to take care of CJ and the baby, but made her sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed in the living room with poor ventilation), and a drinking problem that were all supposedly reasonab...
