RELIVE ANEURIN BEVAN’S LEGACY WITH ‘NYE’

A controversial figure in post-World War II British politics gets the spotlight for the latest installment of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ National Theater Live (CCP NTL). Premiering on November 26, 6PM, at Greenbelt 3, Cinema 1, an epic new Welsh fantasia on the life of labor politician Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan is set to take audiences back in time to witness his legacy.

From campaigning at the coalfield to leading the battle to create the British National Health Service (NHS), Bevan is often referred to as the politician with the greatest influence on United Kingdom without ever being Prime Minister.

Multi-award-winning stage and screen actor Michael Sheen stars in ‘Nye’, a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and story of the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state.

Confronted with death, Bevan’s deepest memories lead him on a mind-bending journey of recollections and hallucinations; from childhood to mining underground, Parliament and fights with Churchill.

A critically-acclaimed debut, Nye was written by Tim Price and directed by Rufus Norris.

On the same date, NTL season one crowd favorite Hamlet, starring acclaimed film, theater, and television actor Benedict Cumberbatch premieres at Ayala Vertis North and Ayala Center Cebu.

As the country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralyzed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state. This great Shakespearan tragedy is directed by Lyndsey Turner.

Film Review : Just The 3 Of Us

My notes on Just The 3 Of Us: 1. The movie reminded me so much of this late 90's rom-com with Matthew Perry as a happy-go-lucky bachelor who had a one night stand with a sultry Salma Hayek in Vegas. She ended up pregnant, they got married, and then discovered each other's personalities while fixing family and work issues. It was called Fools Rush In and I would have asked you to rent it in a local Video City, but I think all of their stores closed ages ago. 2. In this version though, the girl CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) would rather stalk the potential father and be the emotional punching bag of Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) who had a bad temper (F-words everywhere!), an a-hole attitude ("So what? Buhay ko 'to. Kahit mag-swimming ako sa alak wala ka pakialam!"), crazy reasoning (he wanted to take care of CJ and the baby, but made her sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed in the living room with poor ventilation), and a drinking problem that were all supposedly reasonab...
