The Far Eastern University (FEU) Center for the Arts proudly invites you to “Tutti Trombone: A Collaborative Concert” on November 18, 2024, at 6:00 PM. This exceptional event will be held at the iconic FEU Auditorium, which is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary. Join us for a night filled with powerful performances by the Thomasian Trombone Choir and the FEU Drum and Bugle Corps (FEU DBC), with special guest appearances from renowned international artists.
This year’s Tutti concert promises to elevate musical collaboration to new heights. Following past performances like Flutti, Guitarri, Celli, and Harpi, “Tutti Trombone” continues the tradition, bringing together an ensemble of top-tier musicians. The Thomasian Trombone Choir, led by acclaimed trombonist Ricson Poonin of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, comprises talented students from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Conservatory of Music. Poonin, hailed as a “highly acclaimed trombonist” by The Manila Times, has expertly prepared his students for their FEU Auditorium debut.
Accompanying the Thomasian Trombone Choir will be the FEU Drum and Bugle Corps, the 89-year-old marching ensemble of FEU. Directed by Kevin Castelo, a percussionist with a master’s degree from the University of Indiana, and supported by Assistant Artistic Director Koowie Relevo, the FEU DBC is known for its dedication to musical excellence. The ensemble is composed of non-music majors who share a passion for performance, making the evening a celebration of both musicality and versatility.
In addition to the Thomasian Trombone Choir and FEU DBC, the concert will spotlight three distinguished guest artists:
Thanapoom Sriwiset – Assistant Principal Trombone of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. Sriwiset has performed internationally, including with the Grazer Philharmoniker in Austria, and has taught master classes across Asia.
Ethan Santos – A Filipino-American trombonist, educator, and bandleader based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Santos is an adjunct professor at Tulane University and a celebrated performer at New Orleans jazz festivals. His extensive teaching experience includes clinics at prestigious music foundations across the U.S.
Koowie Relevo – An accomplished musician and Assistant Artistic Director of FEU DBC. As a student, Relevo represented FEU and the Philippines in competitions and has since been celebrated as a “multi-faceted musician” by The Manila Times. Recently, he served as one of the music directors for the FEU DBC’s concert, “From the Field to the Concert Hall.”
“Tutti Trombone” promises a dynamic mix of classical, operatic, and modern repertoires, all brought to life by these talented artists. The evening is not only a celebration of music but also a showcase of FEU’s commitment to cultural excellence. Held in the historic FEU Auditorium, this event offers the community an opportunity to witness a rare collaborative concert that will resonate with audiences long after the final note.
