LOLA IGNA: A Living Legacy

Coinciding with the celebration of 100 years of Philippine cinema, Found Films and EMBA Production proudly bring Lola Igna - one of the three arthouse films under the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino Sandaan Showcase. While so much of cinema’s history is shaped by the the stories beneath the stories, Lola Igna aims to connect with the Filipino moviegoers with important life lessons to learn. The film is headlined by Ms. Angie Ferro, starring Yves Flores, Meryl Soriano and Maria Isabel Lopez.  Lola Igna started filming in August 2018; explored the story from the point of view of a granddaughter and a great-grandson and the dynamics of their relationship with their great-great-grandmother. It’s about emotions, and coping as one nears the end of life.  Living in a secluded hut in the middle of rice fields, Lola Igna is a 118-year old grumpy old woman who just wants to die already, but her neighbours are hung-up on winning the world record for the oldest living grandmoth...

Movie Review : The House Where The Mermaid Sleeps

The film has a simple and yet compelling narrative that there are surprise in every step of the way. The progression of the story and the buildup of emotions were tastefully done, not under nor overly done. For me it has a great balance when it comes to the tone of colours, frames, angles and music. Same goes with the harmony and chemistry of the actors in every scene. Everything was well patterned, synchronized and organised

Teatro Pinas Review : TIPSY TALES’ LAMBANA

Growing up with different myths and folklores from many regions in the country, I would say that Lambana is something that we should be proud of. Aside from the fact that it is entertaining and has a very creative set designs, and characters, it tells the story of the Filipino folklores along with the moral lessons that every character wanted to share to the audiences. Lambana is an immersive theatre experience that not only allows its audiences to interact with characters but also allows you to dictate on what could happen next depending on how you will respond to the characters in every scene. What I love about each actors was they’re all focused in their characters no matter how odd my response was. They stick with their roles ensuring to deliver the values and the lessons of their character.

CIRCA relives the glory days of cinema

A fitting tribute to Filipino cinema as it celebrates its centennial this year, CIRCA relives the glory days of cinema through its characters – with the great Anita Linda (who at 94 is the oldest working actor in the industry) headlining the film about DoƱa Atang, a once celebrated film producer in the early days of cinema who wants to be reconnected with her peers as she celebrates her 100th birthday. Her wish opens up a Pandora’s box as her filmmaker/grandson searches for them - we remember the glorious years of cinema from of its workers- a nostalgia piece filled with memories of what the good old days of Filipino cinema is like.

Teatro Pinas Review : Mabining Mandirigma a Steampunk Musical was absolutely entertaining and fun.

The overall experience of watching Mabining Mandirigma a Steampunk Musical was absolutely entertaining and fun. The musical and it’s direction was honest, straight to the point and informative. It allowed its audiences to decide about the truth that happened in our history. The choreography and song numbers are all fine, same goes with the delivery of message and the intensity of emotions in every scene.

#TeatroPinas : Tanghalang Pilipino' Mabining Mandirigma is bolder for the 4th time around

Before I begin with the topic for this article, I would like to make a disclaimer that everything that is written on this article does not represent Teatro Pinas as a whole. This article might contain personal views and opinion about how I feel and observed in other performances in the past. Art as a whole gives liberty to the artist to share and tell his or her stories, ideas, message and other important details that he or she would want to send across to the audiences. Theatre or performing arts a whole is a safe ground for everyone to share their stories, so as the writers. In writing we find freedom in sharing our views, opinions and stories that we feel that we needs to be shared to people. I know that I’m new in the writing industry, but as a young writer it took a lot of courage for me to ask this specific question that has been echoing in my head during the presscon of Tanghalang Pilinipino’s Mabining Madirigma a Steampunk Musical. Since I feel safe whenever I’m wit...

Pan de Salawal has a different vision when it comes to creating a film

As a young entertainment writer, I have encountered a lot of feedback and suggestions from the moviegoers whenever we released an article about a specific movie or published a specific topic about films. According to the netizens they would want to see a different genre of movie, not just the typical drama, love story, action, indie or horror story.

Dingdong Dantes is the new endorser of MESA Restaurant

Filipinos love to eat. However, we are picky and our palates only recognize flavorful dishes, and the presentation of the food matters as well. When we go out to eat, we try other cuisines rather than our own and always try something new. When we eat at restos that serve local food, we search for that x factor. I consider our local cuisine as the best in the world but there's must be only a few places that I can honestly say serve excellent Filipino food.

SLAPSHOCK DROPS ‘BANDERA’ MUSIC VIDEO FOLLOWED BY TOUR

It’s true what they say, nothing will ever defeat the feeling of having a whole battalion of your fans sing-along to every word of your song in every single tour you’re on, be it a concert, a music festival, or even a small intimate gig. This is probably one of the pinnacles of an artist’s career. But imagine having the voices of thousands of their fans be featured in a song, now that is definitely priceless and that is exactly what Slapshock did in their song ‘BANDERA’, their fourth and latest single from their 9th studio album ‘ATAKE’. ‘BANDERA’ took inspiration from the various banners that the Slap Armies proudly create, raise, and wave, showing which province or city they represent. The song is also an ode to Filipinos around the world that work their fingers to the bone. Consequently, the Bandera or flag is a symbolism of the differences of the Slap Armies and finding common ground in the music of Slapshock, and that is how powerful the music they create.   ...
