LOLA IGNA: A Living Legacy

Coinciding with the celebration of 100 years of Philippine cinema, Found Films and EMBA Production proudly bring Lola Igna - one of the three arthouse films under the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino Sandaan Showcase. While so much of cinema’s history is shaped by the the stories beneath the stories, Lola Igna aims to connect with the Filipino moviegoers with important life lessons to learn. The film is headlined by Ms. Angie Ferro, starring Yves Flores, Meryl Soriano and Maria Isabel Lopez.

Lola Igna started filming in August 2018; explored the story from the point of view of a granddaughter and a great-grandson and the dynamics of their relationship with their great-great-grandmother. It’s about emotions, and coping as one nears the end of life.

Living in a secluded hut in the middle of rice fields, Lola Igna is a 118-year old grumpy old woman who just wants to die already, but her neighbours are hung-up on winning the world record for the oldest living grandmother which makes her an instant celebrity. In the middle of all the sudden changes in Lola Igna’s life, she meet her great-great-grandchild from Ana. Tim is an aspiring Vlogger who wants to latch on to his now-famous grandmother.

What are their unresolved issues? What are their regrets
and what kind of grievances do they have on one another? How will they help each other to move on, live more and live to the fullest? It’s time to find oneself and help other in the process.

Lola Igna is written and directed by Eduardo Roy, Jr. He has done four full length films as a Finalist of Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, namely : Bahay Bata (2011), Quick Change (2013), Pamilya Ordinaryo (2016) and
(2019). He has written and directed a Romantic Comedy Film with Star Cinema - Last Fool Show (2019).

Leading the pack of multi-talented actors is the iconic character actress, Ms. Angelica “Angie” Caballero Ferro - started 1969 as a Theater Actor in PETA, where she was one of the pioneer resident actors. Her film and TV accredits consist of nearly a hundred, with notable performances on “Atsay” and “Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara” Ms. Angie Ferro is a rare performer who easily moves from theater to movie to TV and radio.

Lola Igna serves as in inspiration to make films that would define the Philippine film industry as it celebrates its 100th year.

Film Review : Just The 3 Of Us

My notes on Just The 3 Of Us: 1. The movie reminded me so much of this late 90's rom-com with Matthew Perry as a happy-go-lucky bachelor who had a one night stand with a sultry Salma Hayek in Vegas. She ended up pregnant, they got married, and then discovered each other's personalities while fixing family and work issues. It was called Fools Rush In and I would have asked you to rent it in a local Video City, but I think all of their stores closed ages ago. 2. In this version though, the girl CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) would rather stalk the potential father and be the emotional punching bag of Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) who had a bad temper (F-words everywhere!), an a-hole attitude ("So what? Buhay ko 'to. Kahit mag-swimming ako sa alak wala ka pakialam!"), crazy reasoning (he wanted to take care of CJ and the baby, but made her sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed in the living room with poor ventilation), and a drinking problem that were all supposedly reasonab...
