The Bloomfields are set to unveil their upcoming fourth album, A Drop In The Blue this June.
Shedding a lot of inhibitions and limitations on their latest release, the retro-pop quartet explores more mature themes sonically and lyrically, while expressing their love for '60s rock, psychedelic pop and '90s Britpop influences with a more assured songwriting approach. "We didn't want to get tied down to a genre or image," lead singer and drummer Rocky Collado shares. "We didn't want to get pressured into having to find the next great hugot song or whatever. We wanted the freedom to explore ideas that aren’t normally explored in this kind of medium."
The new release according to Collado, is a written document that recounts the band's learning process.
“It shows not only what we were capable of, but also where we fell short, and how we learned better.”
A Drop In The Blue contains ten original tracks, recorded mostly in their home studio. The tracks are mixed and mastered at Wombworks Studios by Pat Tirano, who helped clean it up for a rounder, more pristine sound.
Lead single, One Time Nevermind has just been released a few weeks ago on streaming platforms such as Spotify.
Playing around with blues and funk elements, while also including rap parts in the verses, the latest offering from the fun and easy-going band isn't anything you'd expect from them on a musical standpoint, but it somehow gives us a refreshing diversion from their vintage rock n' roll branding.
A Drop In The Blue is out next month via Believe Music.
