For its first season, Brilyante Theatre Collective and TarpSoc will bring Drag Race Philippines Season 1 drag queen Turing in UP Los Baños for “BOOM, Turing! Ang Kabogerang Lip Sync Masterclass,” a lecture-demonstration and workshop on the art of lip synching for five selected baby drag queens and aspiring drag queens in Laguna on October 22, 2026, at CAS Annex 2, UP Los Baños.
“I want the new generation of drag artists to be great in lip syncing. I hope through my workshop, they'll gain the knowledge and understanding on how important lip syncing is and how they can improve theirs base sa mga matututunan nila sa akin” says Turing.
“We want to encourage young people to explore their queer artistic selves through queer art forms, such as the art of drag”, says Brilyante Artistic Director Aldrin Bula. “It's high time na yumabong ang queer spaces for queer artists lalo na sa mga probinsya at rehiyon na malayo at kulang sa access and resources. At present, we're growing our network and we're starting with baby queens and aspiring drag queens” added Brilyante Production Manager Ju Petalver-Rivera.
Turing Quinto graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication, majoring in Performing Arts from Centro Escolar University in Manila in 2014. She has worked and acted in the film and production industry right after college, and started performing in drag in 2017 at O Bar Philippines until late 2024.
Doors will open at 5:30PM, but pre-registration is required as slots for the audience are limited. The event is collaboratively organized with TarpSoc, Legal Drags, and is co-presented by UPLB CAS Department of Humanities, with endorsement from UPLB Gender Center, with additional support from the Los Baños-based book reading cafe The Reading Nook.
Brilyante Theatre Collective is a theatre collective composed of queer theatremakers based in Laguna and NCR that aims to surface marginalized contemporary queer narratives through creative media. Its recent staging, “Brilyante: Ang Kabogerang Baklaan Musical” during Women’s Month 2025 centered on the narratives of the indigenous baklang kanal and used theatre, music, and social media as a platform on interrogating current issues, biases, and standpoints that the LGBTQIA+ community and women face in today’s society.
