Ternocon 2025 continues the dialogue on the Filipino Terno

Young designer Peach Garde’s collection, inspired by the legacy of National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin, wins the prestigious Pacita Longos Award

Young designer Peach Garde of Tapaz, Capiz took home the coveted Pacita Longos Medal (Gold Award) during the Ternocon 2025 finale at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). His exceptional design, which masterfully honored the traditional Philippine Terno while incorporating the contemporary influences of National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin, earned him this prestigious recognition.

The much-anticipated fashion event concluded with an impressive lineup of winners, each showcasing a perfect blend of tradition and modernity. The prestigious awards not only highlighted skill and creativity but also the deep cultural roots embedded in Filipino heritage.

Garde’s collection beautifully paid tribute to Locsin’s iconic works, such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and PICC. Drawing inspiration from Locsin's legacy, Garde’s ensemble pieces incorporated sculptural silhouettes, geometric patterns, and innovative fabric choices.

Designer Bryan Peralta of Makati City won the Pura Escurdia Medal (Silver Award) for pushing the boundaries of modern fashion with bold shapes and textiles and capturing the powerful strokes of National Artist Jose Joya.

Designer Ram Silva of Iloilo earned the Ramon Valera Medal (Bronze Award) for his remarkable craftsmanship celebrating National Artist Fernando Amorsolo’s appreciation for the Filipino countryside and its rich cultural heritage.

Designer Windell Madis of Batac City, Ilocos Norte was honored with the Joe Salazar Medal,  the Chief Mentor’s Award, recognizing his fashion expertise in channeling the distinct style of National Artist for Visual Arts Hernando R. (H.R.) Ocampo, known for blending geometric shapes and vibrant hues.

CCP President Kaye C. Tinga and Suyen Corporation Chairman and CEO Ben Chan extended their heartfelt congratulations to the winners, commending their outstanding creativity and contribution to the preservation and evolution of Filipino fashion.

“Your creativity and dedication breathe new life into the Terno, ensuring it transcends our past, present, and future as Filipinos. Your work today stands as a testament to the enduring relevance of the Terno and fashion as part of our cultural identity,” said Tinga.

Chan, meanwhile, expressed that this year’s theme encapsulates the essence of Filipino artists inspiring Filipino designers. He added, “Thank you to all our finalists. We look forward to witnessing the fruits of your creativity and to your promising contributions to the evolution of our national dress in the future.”

The winning designs further strengthen Ternocon's position as a beacon for Filipino creativity, providing a platform for new voices while celebrating the rich history of Filipino fashion.

Both the CCP and Bench remain steadfast in their commitment to championing Filipino designers and their significant contributions to the Philippine cultural landscape.

For Chan, Ternocon is “our panata (vow) for the Philippines,” expressing how deeply personal this project is to him and his family. “This event is close to our hearts as it honors our parents Chan Lib and See Ying, whose legacy is etched in the drawing of a Filipina wearing a terno on the packaging of the humble gawgaw used to preserve the Terno. This is a business they established in 1946, emerging from the ruins of war. They named it Liwayway, meaning ‘dawn,’ to symbolize the start of a new day and a new hope for the country.”

For Tinga, the finale and awards ceremony was more than just the culmination of the designers' journeys. “We find a continuation of an ongoing conversation, as their collections, alongside the works of their mentors, create an intergenerational narrative on the runway. Art plays a central role in shaping our cultural identity, and fashion adds a unique dimension because it is accessible and interactive, connecting directly with the individual wearer.”

Launched in 2018 through a partnership between the CCP and Bench, Ternocon’s fourth edition aimed to preserve and promote the Philippine dress.
