Teatro Pinas | Tridem Collective Reimagines Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing as Love’s Labour’s Won This April 2026
Theater audiences in Makati are in for a fresh take on a Shakespearean classic as Tridem Collective stages Love’s Labour’s Won, a contemporary reimagining of William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy Much Ado About Nothing. The production runs on select dates in April 2026 at The Mirror Theatre Studio in Poblacion, Makati City.
Blending classical storytelling with modern sensibilities, Love’s Labour’s Won explores timeless themes of love, deception, and reconciliation. The production features a dynamic cast composed of seasoned theater professionals, emerging actors, and students from Tridem Collective’s Workshop to Stage 2 theatre acting program, creating a collaborative platform where education and performance meet.
Directed by theater mentor Miel Barrera Abong, the play continues Tridem Collective’s mission to make classical theater accessible, inclusive, and engaging for contemporary Filipino audiences. According to Abong, Shakespeare’s works are meant to be experienced live rather than simply read.
“The Philippines has a vibrant Shakespeare community that extends far beyond the classroom,” Abong explains. “While many know his words well, Shakespeare’s plays are not meant to be read—they’re meant to be performed. When staged thoughtfully, they illuminate timeless human struggles and reflect the realities of contemporary life.”
Founded in September 2025, Tridem Collective first introduced itself to audiences with a theatre-in-the-round staging of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With Love’s Labour’s Won, the group continues its commitment to developing Philippine theater by combining classical works with modern theatrical approaches.
The production is also part of Tridem Collective’s Workshop to Stage program, a fully immersive training experience designed for actors of all levels. Participants undergo five weeks of intensive workshops followed by five weeks of rehearsals, culminating in two weekends of live performances. The three-month program mirrors the structure of a professional theater production cycle and equips students with practical acting skills and performance experience.
Director Miel Barrera Abong brings more than two decades of experience performing and working within Shakespeare’s canon. Her theater credits include productions of Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cymbeline, and Julius Caesar. With academic training in Theatre Arts and Media Education from Assumption College Makati and professional experience in marketing, scriptwriting, design, logistics, and production, Abong now focuses on teaching, directing, and producing classical theater for modern audiences.
