Barq, the rap alias of Arkin Magalona, delivers a powerful punch with his latest single, “TUMATAK,” released under Sony Music Entertainment. The track chronicles his journey as a young artist determined to honor the grind and make his mark in the music industry.
“It’s all about leaving your mark on the world,” shares the rising hip-hop artist. “No matter what you do in life, always aim to create something lasting and memorable. Impact isn’t just about fame or status—it’s about legacy.”
Fueled by thunderous production and razor-sharp lyricism, “TUMATAK” reveals a reflective, intimate side of Barq. The song challenges preconceived notions about his principles and lifestyle while showcasing his potential as a storyteller. Raised among individuals who overcame adversity to achieve greatness, Barq speaks directly to dreamers who have faced doubt, pressure, and high expectations yet remained committed to their goals without shortcuts.
“I wrote the track from a very personal place,” he adds. “It reflects where I am right now—not just as an artist, but as a person.”
Recorded at Doppla Studio and produced by longtime collaborator Denz A.K.A D. Vaughn, the track blends booming beats with textured samples, including a vocal element from Barq’s previous collaboration “Career High” with Manila-based creative Migswell. The production draws inspiration from the energy of “Gold On My Teeth” by ClicKlak and Isaiah Falls.
“It’s the same Barq, but with a different bite,” admits the youngest son of the late Francis Magalona. “I’m like a fusion restaurant serving multiple flavors—you choose which to try, old or new.”
“Every release with your name and truth on it is a risk,” he continues. “You put your heart out there for people to judge. But growth requires risk, and legacy requires risk.”
