Child No. 82 (Anak ni Boy Kana) wins Best Screenplay for Full-Length Film & Audience Choice Award

“Child No. 82 (Anak ni Boy Kana)” made a double win at the #Cinemalaya2025 Awards Night, taking home both the Best Screenplay for Full-Length Film  and the Audience Choice Award!

Fresh from winning Best Screenplay for Full-Length Film and the Audience Choice Award, the creators of Child No. 82 (Anak ni Boy Kana) shared the heart behind the film and what the recognition means to them.

The filmmakers revealed that the screenplay was the result of a long writing process, carefully developed to tell a story that resonates with every child searching for someone who will truly understand and love them. In the end, they said, the film reminds audiences that the person they have been searching for may already exist within themselves.

"What I thought was a love letter to my father turned out to be a love letter to my inner child—and to every child who is still searching for themselves," the director shared.

The team also expressed gratitude that a deeply personal story was given the opportunity to reach a wider audience, saying they are especially moved by receiving the Audience Choice Award. While the film may not have been the biggest box-office title, they said the recognition proves that its message connected with viewers.

They also revealed plans to bring Child No. 82 (Anak ni Boy Kana) to commercial cinemas nationwide and are hoping for support to make an international release possible.

When asked whether the story was inspired by a real political personality, the filmmakers explained that the film draws from extensive research and multiple real-life personalities rather than a single individual, combining different traits into the character of "Boy Kana."

The creators were also delighted by the audience's response to the film's blend of drama, comedy, action, and fantasy. They shared that their goal was to create a story that was accessible and entertaining while gradually revealing deeper themes.

"People may think it's lighthearted at first, but as the story unfolds, they realize it becomes deeper and more meaningful. While they're laughing, they're also beginning to see and understand something about themselves," they said.
