Philippine Ballet Theatre Presents "The Merry Widow": A Grand Revival of Romance and Elegance

A Must-See Ballet Event in 2025

The Philippine Ballet Theatre (PBT) is set to enchant audiences with its grand season opener, The Merry Widow. This beloved classic will grace the stage at the Samsung Performing Arts Theatre for a special limited run on April 5 and 6, 2025. Ballet enthusiasts and newcomers alike can expect a visually stunning and emotionally stirring performance that blends classical ballet, theatrical storytelling, and Franz Lehár’s unforgettable music.

The Magic of The Merry Widow

Originally an operetta composed by Franz Lehár in 1905, The Merry Widow has inspired ballet adaptations worldwide. Set in the romantic city of Paris, this production tells a timeless story of love, passion, and intrigue. PBT’s rendition, choreographed by Artistic Director Ronilo Jaynario, promises a spectacular showcase of classical ballet, character dance, and theatrical acting. Audiences will be transported into an opulent world where emotions run high, and romance takes center stage.

The company dedicates this fifth restaging to its eleven founding members, whose passion and vision laid the foundation for PBT's success on both local and international stages.

Film Review : Just The 3 Of Us

My notes on Just The 3 Of Us: 1. The movie reminded me so much of this late 90's rom-com with Matthew Perry as a happy-go-lucky bachelor who had a one night stand with a sultry Salma Hayek in Vegas. She ended up pregnant, they got married, and then discovered each other's personalities while fixing family and work issues. It was called Fools Rush In and I would have asked you to rent it in a local Video City, but I think all of their stores closed ages ago. 2. In this version though, the girl CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) would rather stalk the potential father and be the emotional punching bag of Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) who had a bad temper (F-words everywhere!), an a-hole attitude ("So what? Buhay ko 'to. Kahit mag-swimming ako sa alak wala ka pakialam!"), crazy reasoning (he wanted to take care of CJ and the baby, but made her sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed in the living room with poor ventilation), and a drinking problem that were all supposedly reasonab...
