“Deadma Walking” is quickly becoming one of the much-talked-about and most awaited entries of this 2017 MMFF

With a grade of A from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) and over four million views of its trailer in just three days, the feel-good comedy “Deadma Walking” is quickly becoming one of the much-talked-about and most awaited entries of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival!

As of December 6, 2017, the movie starring Joross Gamboa and Edgar Allan “EA” Guzman as two gay best friends who mount a fake wake and funeral, is the only one among the eight MMFF films to receive an “A” from the CEB so far.

Based on screenplay that won second prize at the Palanca Awards for Literature, the CEB commended Deadma Walking for its fine direction, editing, script, acting, and heartwarming message.

The CEB summation stated, “Director Julius Alfonso has an auspicious debut film in ‘Deadma Walking’, which is brilliantly visualized and combines humor, drama and camp to come up with the right mix seldom seen in the yearend festival. ‘The comic timing and musical numbers give the film an engaging energy,’ according to one Cinema Evaluation Board member.”

Furthermore, the government body described the storytelling as “superb,” the cinematography as “very good,” and the production design as having a “wow factor.”

The CEB also praised the performances of the entire cast, citing leads EA and Joross as “obvious standouts” and Dimples Romana who, according to the CEB, “puts in a good turn.”

While “Deadma Walking” about dying, the CEB highlighted that it celebrates life and friendship by reiterating that “The gay tragicomedy is different fare for the film fest and does not disappoint.” One CEB member said that the film had the board in stitches as they were reviewing the film.

Netizens are also acknowledging “Deadma Walking” as a potential MMFF hit and they are eagerly awaiting its opening on Christmas Day.

The release of the full trailer over the weekend was immediately met with enthusiastic response. Netizen Kieth Katibag Monteroso posted, “OMG! We have a winner! Will surely watch this movie.” Artist-writer Wanggo Gallaga reached out to a member of the “Deadma Walking” production team and shared this view, “I just saw the trailer of ‘Deadma Walking!’ Tawang-tawa ako… I’ve always wanted to know what my funeral would be like if it happened today.”

Many moviegoers are already pledging to make this comedy picture the first on their viewing list. “This is a movie na dapat tangkilikin, di ba?” said Kel Valdez Patanao. Her comment was seconded by Nel Noto who posted, “Ito panonoorin ko. Ayaw ko kasi yung basta may nagawa lang dahil sikat, okay na. Sana yung ganito. Yung kakaiba naman, yung may taste.”

Film Review : Just The 3 Of Us

My notes on Just The 3 Of Us: 1. The movie reminded me so much of this late 90's rom-com with Matthew Perry as a happy-go-lucky bachelor who had a one night stand with a sultry Salma Hayek in Vegas. She ended up pregnant, they got married, and then discovered each other's personalities while fixing family and work issues. It was called Fools Rush In and I would have asked you to rent it in a local Video City, but I think all of their stores closed ages ago. 2. In this version though, the girl CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) would rather stalk the potential father and be the emotional punching bag of Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) who had a bad temper (F-words everywhere!), an a-hole attitude ("So what? Buhay ko 'to. Kahit mag-swimming ako sa alak wala ka pakialam!"), crazy reasoning (he wanted to take care of CJ and the baby, but made her sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed in the living room with poor ventilation), and a drinking problem that were all supposedly reasonab...
