Pour Out What’s Special: The Perfect Pre-Valentine Night

The perfect Valentine treat to all music aficionado and wine and art connoisseurs kicked off last February 13 at the Novellino Winery in Canlubang, Calamba City, Laguna. Pour Out What’s Special is a scene not only for the experts of music and the arts, but also for all fans of the OPM, especially the independent music, fine arts and fine wine. This “classy” kind of gig was made possible by Novellino Wines and Doc-Def Productions in cooperation with Fringe MNL. According to Chris Quimbo, the COO and President of Novellino Wines, he personally believes that local products are at par with imported ones. Unfortunately, Filipinos have long believed otherwise. This connotation brought by colonial mentality sets aside local products over imported ones and this does not solely affect the local wine industry. The same goes with local music. Thus, the birth of the best association of fine music and wine that Filipinos should taste---OPM and Novellino, because local wine and music can bring the finer things in life.

The night was filled with resounding originals from local artists who kept the night warm, romantic and delighting for everyone. While the music fills the romantic atmosphere, the venue was divided into simultaneous activities that everyone could enjoy. Inside the warehouse, the stage, lights and sounds were set-up for the performances, with a VIP section. Stepping farther inside, guests were welcomed by live graffiti and chalk art where artists spent the night amusing the audience with their on-the-spot artistic creations. Art doesn’t end with the live murals, but goes on as guests are ushered into the winery, with stacks of wine towering the guests on both sides, making a maze-like set-up as masterpieces are up for viewing. Most of them are even for sale. Aside from paintings which are composed of acrylic, oil and mixed media arts, there were artistic shots of local performers in their previous gigs. To complete the winery experience, corners of the “maze” would let you taste the different variations of Novellino. While guests are filled with amazement on various crafts, their cups are filled with the best tasting sips of vino. Outside would be the garden set-up that includes a widescreen showing excerpts of romantic movies, while musicians play acoustic sounds. There were food concessionaires in case guests wanted to pair their glass of wine with on-the-go goodies. With just Php 600 per ticket, guests got two free glasses of wine and the entire experience. There was even a couple- package for Php 1000 for those who wish to spend their Valentine’s Day with awesome music, drinks and atmosphere. Guests even took the experience to social media using the hashtag #PourOutWhatsSpecial

The talented artists who gave soul to the great experience are the following:

Coeli with The Benjamins

Reese Lansangan

Film Review : Just The 3 Of Us

My notes on Just The 3 Of Us: 1. The movie reminded me so much of this late 90's rom-com with Matthew Perry as a happy-go-lucky bachelor who had a one night stand with a sultry Salma Hayek in Vegas. She ended up pregnant, they got married, and then discovered each other's personalities while fixing family and work issues. It was called Fools Rush In and I would have asked you to rent it in a local Video City, but I think all of their stores closed ages ago. 2. In this version though, the girl CJ (Jennylyn Mercado) would rather stalk the potential father and be the emotional punching bag of Uno (John Lloyd Cruz) who had a bad temper (F-words everywhere!), an a-hole attitude ("So what? Buhay ko 'to. Kahit mag-swimming ako sa alak wala ka pakialam!"), crazy reasoning (he wanted to take care of CJ and the baby, but made her sleep on an uncomfortable sofa bed in the living room with poor ventilation), and a drinking problem that were all supposedly reasonab...
