Notes on "Honor Thy Father" (2015 MMFF Entry)

Here the another notes of Jason Javier in the controversial Metro Manila Film Festival movie  "Honor Thy Father." My notes on Honor Thy Father: 1. Two of the best films I've seen this year started with a scene involving a stray dog and both ended with a tragedy. These canine metaphors (dog-eat-dog world? Oppression? Survival? Resiliency?) completely served their purpose and were the perfect jumping-off points for these gritty and brutal portraits of evil within our society. 2. I'm not a fan of networking and this made me think thrice on risking any investments involving fast money. For my friends that did get rich through this scheme though, it's never too late to send me a Christmas basket.

Notes on My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore (2015 MMFF Entry)

Here another notes from Jason Javier regarding on the blockbuster film My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore. My notes on My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore: 1. One of the first few scenes showed Vic Sotto looking at a mirror and combing his eyebrows. This was meant to be funny and it was the type of slapstick comedy that will be used all-throughout the movie. It felt dated (Pinoy comedy has not evolved much?) but still elicited laughs from the audience. A succeeding scene had Joey de Leon referring to Vic's "Sandata ni Hudas". Dated and recycled. 2. Aiai delas Alas, on the other hand, played her character really loud and broad (with matching frilly hair, pastel outfits, and purple & green eyeshadow in case it still wasn't loud enough for the viewers). She kept screaming all of her lines reminding me of my mom whenever I forget to place my clothes in the hamper. I think they would make the perfect BFFs. 3. I was thrown off by the ADHD-style editing with screens flipping a

Monteverde of Reality Entertainment Releases Statement on "Honor Thy Father" DQ

In rare occasions that an Erik Matti film opens with commercialized productions during the MMFF, the disqualification of Matti's Honor Thy Father starring John Lloyd Cruz stirs the festival with its controversial disqualification. Here is the full statement of Dondon Monteverde, CEO of Reality Entertainment statement regarding “Honor Thy Father.” When Reality Entertainment partnered with John Lloyd Cruz in producing “Honor Thy Father” we agreed to make a movie that would capture a small portion of the struggle of the Filipino as he tried to transcend the back-breaking realities and limitations of his life. We wanted to tell the story of Edgar, a Filipino who finally fights back. After putting up with so much oppression, he confronts the people that have made his life hell, people motivated by greed for money and lust for power.

Everyday I Love You | Movie Review

Plot of EVERYDAY I LOVE YOU  A young woman, whose beau is in a coma, falls in love with an achievement-oriented young man, leaving her torn between the man of her dreams, and the man who makes her dreams come true. My notes on Everyday I Love You: 1. Let me start by saying that this movie was far from being groundbreaking. It was a simple and derivative love story that didn't really deviate much from the Star Cinema rom-com formula. It successfully delivered on the promised kiligs, though, and I went out of the theater feeling like I was experiencing puppy love for the very first time again. 2. All the credit should go to the wonderful tandem of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil. They saved a tired old plot straight out of While You Were Sleeping (loyalty vs love) just by continuously teasing each other and making googly eyes that made the entire theater swoon. They were more than bagay. In my heart, they were really meant to be.

Felix Manalo | Movie Review
