The Far Eastern University Theater Guild (FTG) marks its 91st season with a bold and flavorful theatrical offering — “Karne”, an interactive Filipino dark comedy written and directed by Dudz Teraña, Senior Artist-Teacher of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and FTG’s artistic director.
Inspired by Roald Dahl’s “Lamb to the Slaughter” and set in 1980s Lubotan, Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental, Karne blends Pinoy humor, mystery, and the rhythms of rural life into a rich stage experience. Using a mix of Bisaya, Tagalog, and English, the production invites audiences into a simmering household where secrets are as thick as the aroma of adobo in the air.
“This play holds up a mirror to lived realities — bold in form, grounded in truth, and unapologetically relevant. Karne is not just something to watch; it’s an experience that lingers,” said Director Dudz Teraña.
What’s Cooking in “Karne”
The story follows Mary and Police Captain Patrick Patrosa, a seemingly ordinary couple navigating love, expectations, and community ties — until a simple dinner spirals into a mix of tension, laughter, and shocking revelations that engulf the whole barangay of Lutoban.
The cast features Maria Mayano, Julia Nicole Ramas, and Janae Dionisio as Mary; and RB Pascua, Aaron Bayani, and Arvin Javier as Patrick. They are joined by a dynamic ensemble including Jonas Cunanan, Renz Dotillos, Jharelle Villalobos, Dianne Andallo, Maria Ysabelle Delos Reyes, Bjorn Pestaño, Margarita Barrameda, and Sheila Peralta.
Generational charm comes from Mrs. Poblacion (Cassandra Herilla, Irish Oliveros, Trisha Tan) and her grandchild Estong/Estang (Lorenze Moral, Nash Desonyo, Heleina Li), while Samuel the market vendor (Julian Anabo, Migi Mesina) adds bursts of local color.
