Teatro Pinas Review : PETA's Charot

PETA's CHAROT, is a musical performance and information campaign about the changes that our country is about to face depending on our voting decisions. It tells the story about the reality and differences in the society highlighting the political and social relevance to the past and present state of the nation focusing on the key cities that experience the same sentiments.

CHAROT is an interactive and engaging performance that allows its audience to decide on specific parts of the plays. It's a safe playground for diverse minds to collaborate and decide whether to agree or disagree on a specific matter, which PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) is known for. It aims to reach out to everyone as we all take part in decision making for the society.

The language used for the play is for everyone, it doesn't seclude any  one from the audience, giving an accommodating feeling that everyone is welcome to take part and enjoy the show. Surely everyone will enjoy the seem less drop of jokes, making it more relating to everyday living.  The musical arrangement and lyrics are fresh and remarkable. It has an impact that will make everyone realize whether they doing the right thing or not. The songs are the mirror of the society.

The choreography, is synchronized on how they wanted to depict a chaotic environment in the metro. Straightforward, honest and on point; giving the feeling that this is us now. At the same time asking a question on how can we change the future.

Casting and characters, ensures that every single member of the society was represented. No one is left behind. All walks of life are present in the story. Costumes has a great balance of tones and texture. Making sure that is allows to express the personality of the characters. I would like to commend Meann Espinosa for playing three different roles with such great perfection. She dominated her scenes and I feel like, no one can perform her characters. Looks like her roles are specifically made for her.

The set design, projection, lights and overall aesthetics of the stage are made not to overpower the highlights of the story. The projections has been set at the right time allowing to give and take the spotlight of each scenes. The lights are well balanced and on the exact tones and shades.

All of the performers on stage are bursting with 'high energy,' no dull moments. Everyone takes part on their performance. They know how to give and take their part. If you want to laugh, have fun, and get informed, CHAROT is the perfect show to watch.

Directed by Rak of Aegis director, Maribel Legarda, Charot! is a comedy musical that revolves around the concept of "voting" and democracy, and will present the realities of the Philippine society in a strangely familiar satire that is both hilarious and ridiculous.

It introduces a dynamic cast of newcomers and veterans: Jack Yabut as Papsy, Teetin Villanueva and Gardo Vicente as Millennial Girl, Bene Manaois and ABS-CBN Star Magic’s CJ Navato as Millennial Boy, Meann Espinosa as Tita Mary Grace, Sister Joy, and Karen De Villa, Kitsi Pagaspas as Nanay, Jason Barcial and Roi Calilong as Boss, Gio Gahol and Lemuel Silvestre as Beki Car Pool Driver, Gold Villar-Lim and Jimma Nariz as Grethel Tuba, Icee Po and Rhapsody Garza as Super Mall Saleslady and Norbs Portales as Street Vendor.

The Powerhouse cast of Baril and Buwan sa Eb Major together with the director Andoy Ranay For every person who has lived in this world, there is this moment of time that we have experienced pain, fear and grief.
